Shown is a motor developed for a SAAB manned aircraft. The highly redundant motor and power electronics are both from Stridsberg Powertrain AB. The 11 kg air cooled motor has a potential power of 33 kW at 3600 rpm i. e. 4 hp/kg (only 20 kW is used in the aircraft). The design permits operation even after single failures such as shorted capacitors, broken transistors or shorted windings or cables.
